It’s easy to assume that all fillers do the same thing and work the same way. In fact, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Today, we’re putting the spotlight on Radiesse® fillers, which work to improve your facial aesthetic and the delicate skin on your hands.
What Are Radiesse® Fillers?
Radiesse® fillers are calcium-based fillers, which, unlike hyaluronic acid, aren’t naturally occurring in the body. Consequently, Radiesse® isn’t naturally broken down by the body in the same way as hyaluronic acid, so there is more likelihood that you may experience side effects from treatment.
How Do Radiesse® Fillers Work?
Radiesse® fillers stimulate your body’s supply of collagen, which has three benefits:
- Already-present fine lines and wrinkles become less accentuated
- Targeted areas of the skin are plumped
- More collagen is created, leading to longer-lasting results.
Collagen is the essential protein responsible for skin firmness, smoothness, and suppleness. The process of creating more collagen works once the injected gel triggers an immediate response in the skin. Over time, the hydrogen carbon within the gel combines with oxygen to create a structure that emulates connective tissues.
With this in mind, Radiesse® fillings can be more transformative than other filler compositions, improving skin integrity as they work to remodel the skin.
Which Areas Of Skin Can Radiesse® Fillers Benefit?
There are two formulations of Radiesse® fillers, Radiesse® and Radiesse®+. The formulation used will depend on your unique skincare goals.
The fillers can benefit three key areas:
Lower face
- Fill our pre-jowl folds on either side of the chin. Filling these can create a more pleasing jawline and create a lifting effect.
- Chin wrinkles can be filled and smoothened.
- Deep smile lines (nasolabial folds) can be reduced to reduce a tired facial aesthetic.
- Lines in the corners of the mouth that become downturned as we age can be reduced, reversing an angry, upset, or tired-looking appearance and expression.
- Lines under your mouth running perpendicular from the corners of the lips can be reduced.
Hands
- Restore volume to the hand area, filling fine lines and improving skin elasticity.
- Veins and tendons can be made to look less conspicuous.
Jawline
- A softer or more pronounced and defined jawline can be achieved.
Radiesse® is the most effective filler for providing a lifting effect, particularly amongst male patients seeking natural-looking augmentation in the jaw and lower third of the face.
What Is The Radiesse® Treatment Journey Like?
Any reputable medical aesthetics clinician will wish to discuss your aesthetic goals, make a treatment plan, and assess your medical eligibility for treatment. Pregnant and breastfeeding women are unsuitable for any dermal filler treatment, as there is not yet enough research into how fillers affect blood flow during pregnancy and post-partum when hormones continue to shift.
Run a mile from any clinician who rushes you into treatment or leaves you with unanswered questions about how they will use their skill and resources to enhance your skin.
A topical antiseptic and anaesthetic are used to clean the skin and minimise discomfort respectively. You should only feel very slight pressure at the injection site. Unlike other dermal filler treatments, each injection takes only 5 to 10 minutes, so it’s a fast and convenient treatment.
Is There Recovery Time After Radiesse® Fillers?
Like with other filler brands, there is no recovery time post-treatment. Strenuous exercise is not recommended until 24 hours after the procedure. Common side effects are mild bruising, redness and swelling.
When Will I See The Results?
The results of Radiesse® are instantaneous, though you will continue to see results for up to 3 months, during which time your body creates collagen around the Radiesse® molecules.
So, Is Radiesse® Fillers Right For Me?
Perhaps the most important thing to remember about Radiesse® fillers is that they’re non-dissolvable. This means they can’t be adjusted once injected, and you will need to wait approximately 18 months for your pre-treatment facial aesthetic to return.
Ensure you approach a medically-trained clinician who can show you a broad selection of before and after photos of past patients. This will allow you to see how that particular clinician uses the fillers, which may or may not be to your satisfaction.
If you’re new to fillers, they may recommend dissolvable hyaluronic acid fillers such as Juvederm, a more introductory treatment.
