    The Salmon Sperm Facial Craze

10 Reasons It Is Making Waves

The Rejuran SkinBooster, often referred to as the ‘Salmon Sperm Facial’, is a South Korean skincare innovation which has gained international attention for its unique approach to skin rejuvenation. When Friends star Jennifer Aniston mentioned the facial as one of the ways she has sought to keep her skin looking younger, news of the facial went viral.

In an article in the New York Post, Dr Kenneth Beer, a cosmetic dermatologist in West Palm Beach, Florida, explains that the facial has been a staple in Korea for many years. He further quips:

“However, the most important reason it is suddenly popular is likely related to the fact that Jennifer Aniston mentioned it.”

Despite its colloquial name, the treatment uses polynucleotides (PN) derived from salmon DNA, not actual sperm, to promote skin repair and hydration.

The treatment originated in South Korea, a country renowned for its advancements in skincare and cosmetic procedures. Developed over a decade ago, it was designed to harness the regenerative properties of salmon DNA to improve skin texture and elasticity. The active ingredient, polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN), has been studied for its potential to stimulate collagen production and accelerate tissue repair, making it a popular choice for those seeking non-invasive skin rejuvenation options.

The treatment involves the application of PDRN through microneedling or direct injections into the dermis. Microneedling creates microchannels in the skin, allowing for deeper penetration of the serum, while injections deliver the substance directly to targeted areas.

Patients typically undergo a series of sessions spaced a few weeks apart to achieve optimal results. The procedure is known for its minimal downtime, with most individuals experiencing only mild redness and swelling that subsides within a day or two.

Proponents of the Rejuran SkinBooster cite numerous benefits, including improved skin hydration, reduced fine lines, enhanced elasticity, and a more even skin tone. The treatment is particularly favoured for its ability to address signs of aging and environmental damage, without the need for more invasive procedures.

However, others have noted that the procedure can be uncomfortable, particularly when administered through injections. It is essential for prospective patients to consult with qualified healthcare professionals to determine if the treatment aligns with their skin type and aesthetic goals.

Now, It’s Time For Some Salmon Sperm Facial Facts That Will Blow Your Mind

Here are some facts which highlight why this K-Beauty innovation has captured global fascination:

    1. It’s made from salmon DNA, not actual sperm.
Despite the viral nickname, Rejuran uses polynucleotides (PDRN) extracted from salmon sperm DNA, not the sperm cells themselves. These nucleotides are almost identical to human DNA, making them incredibly compatible with human skin.
    2. The treatment began as wound healing therapy.
Before it became a skincare craze, PDRN was used in regenerative medicine to help heal ulcers and wounds. Dermatologists discovered that it also stimulated collagen and improved skin elasticity, leading to its cosmetic use.
    3. Rejuran is often called ‘Baby Skin Injection’ in Korea.
In South Korea, where the treatment originated, it’s known as ‘Healer Injection’ or ‘Baby Skin Injection’ because of the youthful, smooth complexion it creates.
    4. It repairs skin from the inside out.
Unlike superficial treatments, Rejuran SkinBooster works at a cellular level to repair damaged skin, improve elasticity, and strengthen the skin barrier, with long-lasting results over time.
    5. It has almost no side effects for most skin types.
Because the DNA is highly purified and biocompatible, most users experience little to no adverse reactions. The only side effects of the treatment are temporary redness or swelling, which typically resolve in a day.
    6. Some celebrities reportedly swear by it.
While official endorsements are rare, dermatologists in Seoul and Los Angeles have hinted that stars like K-pop idols and Hollywood actors use Rejuran to maintain flawless, ‘glass skin’.
    7. You can inject it nearly anywhere.
Though most commonly used on the face, Rejuran can also be injected into the neck, chest, and even hands to rejuvenate aging or damaged skin in less obvious areas.
    8. It’s trending on TikTok and social media.
Videos of the treatment have gone viral, with millions of views under hashtags like #Rejuran and #salmonfacial. You can check them out to see what people are saying.
    9. The salmon DNA comes from specific species.
Only certain species of salmon, like those found in Korea’s cleanest waters, are used for the treatment. They are selected because of their low immune rejection risk and close compatibility with human DNA.
    10. It’s more popular among men than you’d think.
In South Korea, a large portion of Rejuran clients are men in their 30s and 40s seeking to reverse signs of aging or sun damage discreetly.

    A Treatment With Global Appeal

While the Rejuran SkinBooster’s origins lie in South Korea’s dynamic skincare industry, its appeal has transcended borders, capturing the interest of a global audience.

In the United States and the United Kingdom, the Rejuran SkinBooster is available at select clinics specialising in advanced skincare treatments. Due to regulatory considerations, the procedure may be offered under different names or with variations in technique.

Individuals interested in the treatment should research reputable providers and inquire about the specific protocols used to ensure safety and effectiveness.

“Glass skin” is such a dreamy goal and this might actually be a realistic way to get there without 10 different serums.
