Things To Know Before Considering Facial Fillers

If you’re thinking about having fillers to rejuvenate your skin, here are a few things you should know before taking the plunge.

    Less is more

Fillers deliver the best results when they’re subtle and yield a natural-looking finish. You might have seen the unfortunate effects of signing up for too high a dose of filler – we see this a lot in the world of celebrity!

It can result in a swollen-looking facial aesthetic that obscures your natural features, rather than enhancing them. A talented and experienced aesthetics practitioner will advise you on how much or little filler to have and which areas to target. They understand that less is more and no two patients are the same.

    Find a reputable clinic

Whilst there are many reputable clinics, with individuals offering FDA-approved treatments, unregistered individuals are out there offering such treatments illegally.

It’s important to remember that only medically qualified individuals with the relevant qualifications can perform fillers and anti-wrinkle injections.

Take a look at this article to find out more about the type of credentials are required in an aesthetician.

Follow-ups are required to maintain results

The effects of dermal fillers last around 6 months, after which time they naturally dissolve on their own. The effects of dermal fillers can be prolonged by having regular treatment between every 6-12 months, depending on the results you’re after.

Aside from having treatment top-ups, there are things you can implement in your everyday life to keep your skin as youthful and healthy-looking as possible. Examples include limiting your sun exposure (and wearing a hat and sun cream if you are under those rays), eating a healthy diet, quitting smoking and avoiding excessive alcohol consumption.

    Recovery depends on the individual

One of the many benefits of fillers treatment over surgery is the comparatively low recovery time. It’s common to experience some side effects like swelling and bruising (especially around delicate areas like the lips and around the eyes) and these will last for between a few days and two weeks.

If you know you bruise easily, arnica cream can help to soothe the bruising. After around 4 weeks, the filler fully integrates into your skin’s natural tissues.

    Fillers vary brand-to-brand

Not all filler brands achieve the same things; some can be more effective for specific areas of the face and yield longer-lasting results.

Radiesse fillers last a year or more because your natural collagen production is stimulated, meaning fewer touch-ups are required to maintain the results.

Restylane Silk is designed to enhance the lips, being made with smaller particles than other types of filler.

Juvéderm is one of the most commonly used fillers, used for a variety of areas across the face. The fact that it’s made from hyaluronic acid means there’s no risk of allergic reactions, as it’s a substance our body creates on its own when we are young. As we age, it leaves the body.

Do your research when it comes to the type of filler brands a clinic offers.

I would like to get fillers for my forehead and lips once clinics are fully open again. My lips have always been quite thin and Ive recently started to get wrinkles coming in on my forehead. Probably from all this covid stress, but I would like to stay young for while longer!

Looking to get lip fillers once the lockdown is lifted, a few of my friends have transformed their look with lip fillers and not by going over the top with it.
