Juvederm Filler: What is it & How is it Used?

If you’ve been researching non-surgical dermal filler treatments, the chances are you will have come across the brand Juvéderm. One of the leading brands out there, Juvéderm, has an excellent reputation amongst patients and clinicians with a medical background. Below, we’re answering your questions if you’re considering turning back the clock on ageing with the help of Juvéderm fillers.

What are Juvéderm Fillers Made of?

Juvéderm fillers are made from hyaluronic acid (HA), which remains one of the most popular types of filler on the aesthetics market. HA exists naturally within the body, so once injected, it dissolves naturally and safely over months.

HA fillers simply restock the supply of HA the skin loses once the ageing process and lifestyle choices (notably sun damage, a poor diet and smoking) begin to take their toll. HA draws vital moisture to the skin, which helps it become more supple, visibly more hydrated, and youthful in texture and elasticity.

Using the right skincare products post-treatment will help further enhance the effects of the dose of hyaluronic acid on your skin. Dermal fillers are often likened to giving your skin a big pint of water, which we know helps diminish fine lines and wrinkles across dehydrated skin.

What are the Different Types of Juvéderm Filler?

Juvederm is available in many different forms, depending on which areas of the face you would like to enhance and contour. Here is a breakdown of each:

Juvéderm® Voluma XC: cheekbone, jawline, and chin filler. A thick filler, Voluma is engineered to provide face support and structure. It’s the most long-lasting of hyaluronic acid fillers, with a lifespan of up to 2 years.

Juvéderm® Ultra XC: enhances and adds volume and texture to the lip area. Ultra XC can also reduce lip lines, which can result from ageing and smoking (these lines are often referred to as ‘barcode lip lines’).

Juvéderm® Vollure XC: used for moderate and pronounced wrinkles and folds, including loose skin in the jaw area and smile lines. This filler can last up to 18 months, making it ideal for patients seeking long-lasting results. Recommended once you have tried and tested fillers with a shorter lifespan.

Juvéderm® Volbella XC is ideal for subtle lip enhancement and popular with patients who don’t want people to notice they have had work done. Amalgamates short and long chains of hyaluronic acid, making it a versatile filler.

Juvéderm® Ultra Plus XC is a thicker filler to give the lip area a noticeably plumped lip. Recommended to patients who may wish to graduate from a more subtle type of filler.

    What Does Juvéderm Treatment Involve?

    Juvéderm Volux and Ultra 4

Like all dermal filler-based treatments, Juvéderm® is an injectable treatment with which a numbing cream is used, helping to prevent any discomfort during the injection process. A typical treatment session lasts about 15 to 60 minutes.

Remember that any non-surgical medical aesthetics treatment like Juvederm dermal fillers should be preceded by a consultation with a medical professional who will wish to know if you are on any medication, pregnant, or breastfeeding. These factors may affect your suitability for treatment.

The consultation appointment is also so your clinician can study your face and skin in detail. Any clinician who rushes you into treatment without explaining how they will use the fillers to remodel your skin should be ringing alarm bells. Planning procedures like dermal fillers take time, as treatment should always be completely tailored to your expectations and your skin’s unique texture.

Common side effects of Juvederm are generally mild and temporary, including redness, swelling, bruising, and tenderness at the injection site. Rare but more serious side effects can include infection, lumps, and allergic reactions. It’s important to consult with a qualified provider to discuss potential risks.

To prepare for the treatment, avoid medications and supplements that can thin the blood, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and vitamin E, for about a week prior to the procedure to reduce the risk of bruising. It’s also advisable to avoid alcohol and strenuous exercise 24 hours before your clinic visit.

What areas can be treated with Juvederm?

Juvederm can be used to treat various areas of the face, including:

    • Nasolabial folds (smile lines)
    • Marionette lines
    • Lips (for augmentation and definition)
    • Cheeks (to add volume and contour)
    • Under the eyes (tear troughs)
    • Jawline and chin

How Long do the Results Last?

The length of time the filler remains within your skin depends on the type you opt for. Shorter chains of hyaluronic acid provide more immediate results in the skin’s surface layers, whilst longer-chain hyaluronic acid fillers penetrate the deeper layers of the skin, delivering longer-term hydration and volume. Typically, Juvéderm fillers can last for between 6 months and 2 years.

So, is Juvéderm Right For Me?

Juvéderm fillers are used across the U.K. by many medical professionals, such as doctors and dentists. This alone is a testament to their quality and reliability. Juvéderm has been developed with a patented technology that ensures the face does not appear motionless and devoid of expression but rather natural, bringing out the authenticity of the patient’s natural features.
