Facial Aesthetics: How To Do It Safely

Whilst these treatments are safe when performed by a medical professional, there can be devastating consequences when they aren’t. At present in the U.K, the government doesn’t require aesthetic practitioners to have specific qualifications, which is prompting a worrying rise in botched procedures.

This rise is piling pressure onto the NHS, who are regularly reversing the damage caused by poorly carried out non-surgical facial treatment. Read on to educate yourself on how to choose a competent aesthetician and receive safe, tailored treatment that will make you feel and look great.

    What counts as ‘non-surgical’?

Non-surgical treatment does not involve medical incisions or general anaesthetic. Examples of surgical treatments include breast augmentation, liposuction and rhinoplasty. Common non-surgical treatments include botox, chemical peels, microdermabrasion and non-surgical laser treatment.

Why do unqualified aestheticians pose a danger to their clients?

Many of the courses offered to budding aestheticians can be as short as a few hours and on some occasions, carried out solely on Zoom. Meanwhile, some treatments like non-surgical face lifts require the use of needles similar to those used by surgeons, and there is no specialist training (and in some cases no opportunity to practice) before students carry them out for the first time.

It’s not surprise then, that the risk of malpractice is likely, and can leave you with irrevocable damage such as burst blood vessels and allergic reactions. At this point, you might be thinking ‘why on earth would I try this?’ but in the hands of the right practitioner the risks are extremely minimal.

    Stick with SaveFace

If you’re considering the non-surgical treatment, be sure to stick with Save Face, who are a government-approved national register of accredited medical practitioners. Use their website to search for reputable establishments offering safe aesthetic treatment in your local area.

Do the risks of non-surgical treatments outweigh the benefits?

When performed by a qualified individual, there is no reason why non-surgical treatments can’t be beneficial – for some, these treatments can even be life-changing. A skilled aesthetician can deliver predictable results, as they have a comprehensive understanding of the anatomy of the face and body. They will also wish to speak to you in detail about your medical history, to make sure you’re not unsuitable for your chosen treatment.

If you’re umming and ahing about whether to choose surgical or non-surgical treatment to fix things you don’t like about your face and body, be aware that surgical treatment is permanent and non-surgical is not. So if you don’t like the results, you have the freedom to change things. Our advice is to consider non-surgical treatments as a medical procedure – it is treatment that’s manipulating the body after all! With this mind set, you’re unlikely to run into problems.
